‍ ‍At CWC/CAFE, we support workers in building unions and other workplace-based organizations through education, leadership development, advocacy, and direct action. We believe that empowering workers with the knowledge, skills, and resources to organize and stand together is essential to creating lasting change.

Our work is rooted in the belief that there are no shortcuts to ending poverty and racism in Charleston or throughout the South. We know that meaningful change requires a strong, labor-led movement built around organized and empowered workers. Together, we can transform our region’s economy, strengthen our communities, and advance what our late friend and longtime CWC/CAFE member, James Campbell, called substantive democracy—a society where everyone has a meaningful voice, equal opportunity, and the power to shape the decisions that affect their lives.
